Meet Noah (ADOPTED). He was discovered by one of our volunteers who found him listed on a local yard sale website. The listing described him as “a very energetic, very sweet one year old Airedale who loves everyone and has never met a stranger. He loves running, playing in the water, hikes and his toys. He would do best in a home where he has another dog to play with. We have given him a loving home but with a new baby in the house we are unable to give him the attention he needs.”
Our volunteer was able to bring Noah into rescue and brought him to Las Cruces where he was met by a second volunteer who brought him the rest of the way to Silver City. We updated his vaccinations and got him bathed and groomed and ready for his new forever home. He was adopted by the volunteer who helped transport him –it was love at first sight for the entire family and Noah has doggie sisters to play with and humans to give him lots of love and attention.
Say Hello to Stache! He’s a 14 month old, typical Airedale puppy. He’s got a lot of energy and a super sweet personality. Stache is a taller Airedale but fairly lean at 65 lbs. His likes are playing and digging in the yard, being petted and loved (oh and did I mention being petted), long walks, playing with toys, and sniffing everything he comes into contact with – he knows great adventures are out there. His dislikes are tiled floors, vacuums, thunder, being alone, and sharing his food or toys. He is dreaming of an outdoorsy and active family where he can be the only four-legged member. He has a tendency to vocalize everything he needs and is incredibly smart.
Stache would do best in a home without cats, small children or elderly. He will need a home where his people are with him a lot and give him a job to do. He needs a great deal of patience and socialization where he does not have to compete with other dogs. He is just learning how to be in the house and in a crate, and is learning a bunch of new things (dishwashers are scary as are bathrooms – but he figured out the bed just fine 😉 ). He will need to go to obedience training immediately following adoption and must be exercised multiple times a day.
Stache is adjusting well to city life and seems to enjoy being in the house. He walks through the house like he owns the place 🙂 He is no longer afraid of the different textures of flooring, although he still hates the vacuum (but what Airedale doesn’t). He loves to play ball and run around the yard watching everything that goes by and chases leaves in that sweet puppy way. He has such exuberance for people and is still learning to not jump up on them. He is really sweet and once he’s gotten a lot of attention, he settles down and is happy to follow you from room to room. He definitely prefers to be with people and gets extremely excited with other animals. He definitely cannot be with cats or small dogs, he loves chasing everything and I’m sure would think of cats or small dogs as a great new toy.
Izzy is a five year old, well behaved lady whose family was unable to keep her. She has a moderate amount of energy, she loves to walk, but needs a little work on her leash skills. Izzy gets along with other dogs in the home and at the dog park. She has a gentle mouth and takes treats politely. Izzy is a big girl and could stand to lose about 15 pounds. She has a lot of love and deserves a good family to cuddle with. Izzy is spayed, microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations and is housetrained. She is currently being fostered in Peoria, Arizona.
If you have an application in with Southwest Airedale Terrier Rescue, please let us know that you are interested in Izzy. For all others, please complete an application (link above). Prior to adoption, an application with references and a home visit will need to be done.
8-30-2016 Update. ADOPTED!!
Hank is a very sweet, but very energetic, 5 year old neutered, 68 lb., male Airedale. His owners’ lives have changed drastically since they got Hank. They now each work 45-50 hours per week, have a 2 year old son and another baby on the way.
Hank has always been a well loved, well cared for, house dog, but it doesn’t look like he has had much, if any, training and he is bursting with excess energy because of a lack of exercise.
He is fine with other dogs .. he apparently lived with another dog and is used to going to dog parks.
Hank is neutered, microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations and is housetrained. He is currently n Glendale, Arizona.
Beautiful Brandy was a stray at a shelter in southern New Mexico and no one ever came to claim her. After getting her spayed and over a case of kennel cough and evaluated by a foster family, she was placed with one of our approved applicants who had been waiting a long time for a female that would be a good match for their current female Airedale. They are a perfect match.
UPDATE: Thank you to the Matson family for fostering Monty through his long recovery. The Matsons have fallen in love with Monty and have adopted him.
This poor little man was brought to a vet clinic to be euthanized after he broke his leg. The story the owners gave the clinic was that he was in his kennel run, they were feeding the horses and somehow he got so excited that he broke his leg??? Thankfully, the staff at the clinic reached out and found Southwest Airedale Terrier Rescue. Luckily, it was a fairly simple break, although a pin was required. We would love to find a quiet adult home for him to recuperate close enough to our vet in Glendale, Arizona, to take him in for checkups. He is only 14 months old, so it is going to be tough to keep him quiet …. no children, no other pets.
Polly is a five year old, 58 lb., spayed, healthy and energetic girl. She was too much for her elderly owners, who sadly decided she needed a chance at a better life. She is very friendly, affectionate and loves to be loved. She wants to be close to her humans wherever they are, inside or out, but is okay on her own as long as she has had lots of exercise. She would probably be fine with kids, except that she still jumps and mouths at your hands a little when she is excited in anticipation of a walk or dinner. She is getting much better, but no little kids or elderly in the home until she has had some training.
Polly enjoys hunting lizards with her foster family’s Airedales and would not be safe with cats, birds, or other small rapidly moving critters.
She loves going for walks, car rides and trips to the dog park.
Polly has a beautiful thick coat and luxurious furnishings, which unfortunately had to be shaved off because of the mats.
Polly is currently being fostered in Tucson, Arizona.
If you have an application in with Southwest Airedale Terrier Rescue, please let us know that you are interested in Polly. For all others, please complete an application (link above). An application with vet references and a home visit are required.
Mae came from an elderly couple that found her energy overwhelming.
Her new family keeps her well exercised.
Here is a photo of our girl on our deck with a rainbow in the background. The one with her on her back, is one of her favorite poses; she sometimes sleeps for a while like that. Shows how uptight she is, no?
Here’s Curly! He’s a big (70#) happy friendly young Airedale (estimated to be about 2.5 years old). He was purchased to be trained as a drug detection dog. Apparently drug detection dogs will do anything for a ball and will hunt for it relentlessly. Curly will play fetch a couple of times and then decide that some scent is more interesting. (Wow .. sounds like the Airedales I know!)
Unfortunately, he is NOT cat friendly.
He is now neutered, up to date on all vaccinations and has been cleared of Valley Fever, tick fever and heartworm. ADOPTED
If you have an application in with us, please let us know if you are interested in Curly. He is currently in Phoenix, Arizona.
